KASTELI 1663, opened in 2012 as an Art Gallery and Cafè and is part of the original gateway into Pyrgos medieval castle (Kasteli). 1663 is the year inscribed on the crest above the front door of the building which has been the home of the same family for many generations.

The idea of the gallery is to host exhibitions with connections to Santorini as well as giving the opportunity to visiting artists to show their work to the public. Our vision for KASTELI 1663 is to create a welcoming space open to local residents, visitors and tourists through a diverse and interesting programme of exhibitions, events and activities.

In the ground floor Cafè, we serve a range of drinks and light meals of locally sourced simple food. Our menu is driven by our principle to use produce from the island if possible. Along with coffee, we offer a variety of teas and our fruit juices and smoothies are made fresh from seasonal fruits. Every day we have a selection of fresh home-made savoury and sweet dishes made from local island recipes, using mostly organic or wild ingredients. We serve a selection of high quality wines from Santorini by the glass or the bottle.

The interior of the space remains unaltered over many centuries and together with the original furniture provides a setting for the appreciation of a typical house within the fortification, while the outside offers stunning views of the island. This is a panorama that is worth making the effort to climb the many steps from the new village below in order to experience it.
